Mercedes-AMG

Welcome to the world of AMG.

The dreams of performance enthusiasts. Everything we do at Mercedes-AMG revolves around this. Our aspiration is to make these dreams come true. Our ideal is to exceed them. We are always prepared to go one step further to achieve this.

Away from technology, there's something else that makes an AMG – character.

Top performance does not happen by chance. It is achieved where the art of engineering meets a truly special attitude: the AMG spirit. We believe that you have to keep on challenging limits in order to achieve new goals. We accept nothing as a given. Because limits are imposed by people, and it's also people who can overcome them. This character enables us to achieve automotive performance for the race track – and for the road. We call it "Driving Performance".

AMG-Character-1

What makes an AMG an AMG.

Our aspiration to keep on challenging limits and keep on achieving new goals is already visible in our overall development approach:

Our work begins as soon as planning for a new Mercedes-Benz model's architecture begins. With this we create the basis for the highest aspirations. Unique in the market for performance vehicles. Every Mercedes-AMG is developed and designed entirely in Affalterbach. The perfect mutual harmonisation of all the components and their interaction results in a vehicle that can live on the race track as well as providing motoring enjoyment on the road.

AMG-DrivingPerformance-1

Its superior technologies allow an intense driving experience that fits in with the target group's character. Over 800 of our 1500 staffs work in the development department alone. It is structured around the very core expertise that makes our outstanding performance possible. We thus develop vehicles with truly special DNA based on this strong expertise: the AMG DNA.

AMG-DrivingPerformance-2

"Power is just the beginning. The art lies in getting it onto the road.”

The heart of the AMG drive system is the engine. But getting the engine's power onto the road involves the precise interaction of the clutch, transmission, drive shaft and differential – the entire powertrain. The driver of a Mercedes-AMG physically experiences the acceleration, which is direct, powerful and impressive. This is thanks to the unique AMG performance drive systems. They stand for dynamic response and high agility – combined with top performance and maximum efficiency.

AMG-Drive

You can drive on roads. Or perform on them.

Roads usually get people from A to B. For performance enthusiasts, however, roads mean a lot more than that. They see every bend as an invitation.

They drive pro-actively and attentively. They love to plant their vehicle's power onto the tarmac and at the same time control it precisely. For them, dynamic handling is an expression of their personality.

Unleashed passion, controlled power: this is the principle on which a Mercedes-AMG transforms power into dynamic handling. All the chassis and suspension systems are perfectly tuned to each other.

AMG-DynamicHandling-1

Here innovative AMG technology strikes the ideal balance between dynamism and control – cases in point being the in-house-developed AMG Performance 4MATIC and 4MATIC+ all-wheel-drive systems, the intelligent AMG RIDE CONTROL sports suspension, the variable speed-sensitive sports steering, the AMG high-performance braking system and the optimised aerodynamics.

This wide array of AMG technologies has one aim: the feeling that we are in control of every bend – and not vice versa.

AMG-DynamicHandling-2

"Your diaphragm becomes your eardrum. You hear it with your whole body."

Form Follows Speed.

Anybody meeting a Mercedes-AMG on the road sees design in motion. Anybody driving a AMG makes an aesthetic statement.

Design is the perfect symbiosis of form and function – the dominant and distinctive design idiom ensures that every Mercedes-AMG is an uncompromising acknowledgement of performance at first glance. Characteristic radiator grilles and large air intakes lend Mercedes-AMG vehicles their characteristic faces. Striking side sill panels, rear aerofoils and up to four exhaust tailpipes make the motorsport DNA visible.

History

55 years of Driving Performance.

Over the course of half a century, Mercedes-AMG has repeatedly demonstrated its position as an exceptionally successful sports-car and performance brand, and today does so more than ever. It's also hard to imagine a future world without this extra performance.

55 years right at the limit.

Emotions – limitless. We live and breathe dynamism. We call it Driving Performance. And we keep on improving.

AMG-Yesterday

Milestones of the performance brand.

The company founded by Hans Werner Aufrecht and Erhard Melcher has been making performance fans' dreams come true for fifty years. They established their first workshop in an old mill in 1967. In 1971, the AMG 300 SEL 6.8 AMG achieved a class victory and second place overall at the 24‑hour race on the Spa-Francorchamps circuit.
The partnership with Mercedes-Benz began in 1990. The C 36 AMG, launched in 1993, was the first vehicle co-developed with Daimler-Benz. In 2005, Mercedes-AMG became a wholly owned subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz Group AG. It unveiled the first vehicle developed entirely by Mercedes-AMG in 2009. AMG forged a bridge to motor racing in 2011 with the SLS AMG GT3. This was followed by the Mercedes-AMG GT in 2014 and the launch of the 43 models in 2015.

Our toughest challengers? Ourselves.

We have stayed true to our standards for 55 years, raising the benchmark bit by bit and always leaving a lasting impression. With the fastest German series-production vehicle in 1986: the AMG 300 E 5.6 which impressed the USA with a top speed of over 303 km/h. The American press even nicknamed it “The Hammer” – a name that still stands today and cannot be topped. Or can it? Ask us in 55 years time. The Mercedes-AMG E 63 S 4MATIC+ is making its debut this year.

What makes a true champion tick?

Engine on. Daily routine off.

Whatever model you choose, a Mercedes-AMG is always a bow of deference to the road. At the same time, every situation and every detail reveals the origins of the AMG brand – the race tracks of the world.

Half a century of Driving Performance.

During the last 55 years, we have repeatedly lived up to our claim to be an outstanding sports-car and performance brand with numerous successes in motorsport and the development of unique roadgoing vehicles.
Today we are an Affalterbach-based company internationally recognised for outstanding engine expertise, not only in terms of development, but also when it comes to the "One Man, One Engine" philosophy, which involves each engine being assembled by hand by a single technician. With almost 100,000 vehicles supplied in 2016, representing growth in excess of 40 percent, and the largest model initiative in the company's history, we are starting our anniversary year with record figures behind us.

AMG-Today-2

Reigning supreme at the top.

The AMG name has also been a firm fixture in Formula 1 since the 2012 season. However, our motor-racing passion and expertise go back much further than that.
The three letters AMG are synonymous with Driving Performance. So it was logical to underline the link between AMG and Mercedes-Benz's Formula 1 involvement with a shared name, too: Mercedes-AMG Petronas Motorsport. In keeping with the "One Team" spirit, the team's engine company in Brixworth, England was likewise renamed: Mercedes-AMG High Performance Powertrains.
By winning the triple, that is to say three FIA Formula 1 constructors' world titles in a row, the Silver Arrows have added a new chapter to their long and successful motorsport history.

Our definition of a complete work of art: we develop all the performance-relevant components of our performance vehicles ourselves. So it's no wonder that more than 700 of our staff work in the development department. All of them do so with the aim of realising innovations that exceed all standards again and again – and that applies to the entire vehicle. The Mercedes-AMG GT is the second sports car to be developed entirely in-house at Mercedes-AMG. And no matter how rich and satisfied the engine may sound, the Mercedes-AMG GT is hungry for first place.

Engines that drive an entire industry.

Leave everything standing. That's the purpose of an AMG engine. Power meets precision. And the result is classic AMG: dynamic response, excellent agility and high-revving thrills – combined with top performance and maximum efficiency. For instance, the AMG 4.0-litre V8 biturbo engine stands out with low emissions and the lowest fuel consumption in the segment worldwide.
The AMG transmissions keep up with the engines, ensuring that the engine output is transferred in the very best way possible – according to the situation, with control and astonishingly dynamically. The selectable drive programs offer additional freedom – from extremely sporty to highly efficient and comfortable. For optimum power delivery and even more driving enjoyment.

AMG Future Performance.

Mercedes-AMG is now bringing its unique expertise in the field of proven motorsport drive concepts to the road for the first time in the project ONE and, in the future, also in the series-production vehicles of tomorrow. It is our aspiration to become the spearhead of performance-oriented mobility so as to ensure that our customers can give their passion for performance free rein in the future, too - thanks to innovative solutions in all areas from connectivity to holistic mobility solutions.

AMG Track Pace.

Data logger for use on the race track:
The new AMG Track Pace feature is available for both AMG GT Roadster models. It is part of the optional COMAND Online infotainment system and turns the Apple iPhone® into a personal race engineer. The app allows customers to analyse and improve their driving style on the race track as well as share details with other AMG drivers via Facebook, YouTube or the AMG Private Lounge. The app for the Apple iPhone® connects to the AMG GT models via WLAN. The vehicle then transmits a wealth of data to the app in real time, including speed, gear, steering angle, time, position and acceleration.

For AMG racing drivers:
The app also enables the saving of lap or sector times on race tracks. Numerous track profiles are already saved on the app for this purpose. However, drivers can also record and save other track profiles themselves. In addition to this, the Apple iPhone® camera records the drive around the race track so that the driver obtains an interactive video of their racing experience complete with a display of all the telemetry data.

AMG Future Performance – Mercedes-AMG GT Concept.

Our Mercedes-AMG GT Concept showcar provides a view of the alternative drive concepts AMG is designing. Furthermore, the four-door coupé signifies the further expansion of the AMG GT family. This will be the third model series to be developed completely independently in Affalterbach following the SLS AMG and AMG GT. The model name and key design elements at the front and rear make the car immediately recognisable as a member of the same family as the AMG GT. The "EQ Power+" identifier on the mirror cam indicates the increased performance that can be expected from hybridisation at AMG.

Pioneering hybrid powertrain.

The AMG GT Concept's powertrain is an all-new development. With the SLS AMG Electric Drive unveiled in 2010, we already showed that it is possible to produce a super sports car with battery-electric drive – offering immense performance and maximum driving enjoyment. The planned AMG hypercar promises Formula 1 driving dynamics and efficiency. It shows just what can currently be achieved with hybrid technology.

AMG-Tomorrow-4

Highly qualified craftsmanship by Mercedes-AMG.

One Man – One Engine

In contrast to a mass production process, Mercedes-AMG in-line four-cylinder, V8 and V12 engines are traditionally built by hand in accordance with the "One Man, One Engine" philosophy. A single technician assembles the engine and in the process is responsible for all the steps, from the installation of the crankshaft in the engine block and assembly of the camshafts to the wiring and the filling with engine oil – visibly testified by the technician's signature on the AMG engine badge.

AMG history

Two men, three letters.

In 1967, a unique company was born from an overwhelming passion for motorsport and technology. A for Aufrecht, M for Melcher and G for Großaspach – the names behind these three letters started the rapid development from a two-man operation to a global brand under the Mercedes-Benz umbrella.

AMG Technology and Innovation

Performance meets emotion, exclusivity meets success.

AMG and motorsport are inextricably linked. Striving for top performance, precision and efficiency is part of AMG's professional self-image. Every Mercedes-AMG vehicle therefore includes a promise of outstanding performance, captivating driving pleasure and quality in every last detail.

The vehicle may include optional special equipment that may not (yet) be available for your market.

One Man, One Engine

High-quality craftsmanship from a single source.

We build the 4- and 8-cylinder engines by hand in the traditional way in line with the "One Man, One Engine" philosophy. A single technician assembles the engine and is responsible for all steps, from installation of the crankshaft and assembly of the camshafts to the wiring and filling with engine oil – as is made clearly visible by the technician's signature on the AMG engine badge.
