BlueEFFICIENCY – savings potential successfully exploited.

A lot of work has been done on achieving low consumption and emissions for the V-Class. The savings of the top-specification V 250 BlueTEC engine compared to the V6 engine of the Viano are impressive: Through downsizing, the 4-cylinder engine uses around 2 litres less per 100 km, but with comparable torque.

The V-Class has the following BlueEFFICIENCY measures on board as standard:

  • Fuel Economy rear axle
  • Inner-engine efficiency measures
  • Long rear-axle ratio[1]
  • Two-stage turbocharging
  • Electromechanical steering
  • Electric suction fan
  • Alternator management
  • Refrigerant compressor with magnetic clutch
  • Fuel pump, electrically controlled
  • Fuel Economy low friction oil

BlueEFFICIENCY package – greater efficiency giving lower consumption[2].

The standard BlueEFFICIENCY package measures implemented on the drive system and the aerodynamics have improved the consumption figures and CO2 emissions for the vehicle. The ECO start/stop function, the Fuel Efficiency alternator and aerodynamically-shaped underfloor panelling all increase the efficiency of the vehicle.

The measures to reduce consumption and emissions in detail:

  • The ECO start/stop function switches off the engine temporarily when the vehicle is stationary, which helps to reduce consumption, particularly in urban and stop-and-go traffic
  • The Fuel Efficiency alternator, with improved efficiency rate, takes some of the strain off the engine
  • Underfloor panelling optimises the aerodynamics by ducting the air in an aerodynamically efficient way beneath the vehicle

[2] The BlueEFFICIENCY package comes as standard with all vehicles fitted with 7G-TRONIC PLUS and as an optional extra for vehicles with 6-speed manual transmission.
