The Go for Goals campaign combines the launch of the new Sprinter in 2006, the year of the Football World Cup, with a social sponsoring campaign and builds a bridge to the 2010 Football World Cup in South Africa.
In summer 2006, Mercedes-Benz dealers in various European countries collected points in goal wall shooting. Mercedes-Benz converted these points into support for street football projects by the non-profit organisation Grassroot Soccer in South Africa.
With Go for Goals, Mercedes-Benz aims to give young players a chance for a better start in life. By playing the sport they learn about team spirit and how to compete successfully and without violence. Grassroot Soccer uses the strength and popularity of street football in South Africa to promote disadvantaged youth and to fight against drugs and HIV/AIDS.
The two Mercedes-Benz Sprinters will be used in future in Capetown and Pretoria. They will help ensure that children and youth can travel to football games and other events as part of social programmes.
By 2010 – the year of the next Football World Cup – Mercedes-Benz plans to promote additional street football projects in other countries.
